    Description

Up for auction is this cool 1977 "The General" locomotive brass belt buckle.  The General is a replica of the civil War locomotive that was stolen by a Union Spy, James Andrews, along with 22 Federal volunteers near Atlanta Ga.  on April 12, 1862 to raise havoc between there and Chattanooga Tenn. by tearing up railroad tracks, cutting telegraph lines, burning bridges and causing any other damage that would be useful for the federal cause.  "The Great Locomotive Chase" was also known as The Andrews Raid, was a failure and only lasted 7 hours before most were captured.  There were 8, including Andrews, that were tried and executed.  The rest were either exchanged or escaped captivity.    Please see photos for detail & condition
