    Antique Graceful Newel Post Staircase Architectural 19th Century Maple
    This piece has beautiful and simple graceful lines. I'm not sure, but it's probably maple.  There is no sign of paint or varnish except at the base.
    Dimensions: 34 1/2" from top to where it sits
    41 3/4" overall height
    Top knob is approx. 2 1/4" in diameter at the widest part. It rises 2 3/4" above the flat section.
    The flat tier is 2 3/4" wide and deep and 4 1/8" tall.
    The turned leg tapers from  1 3/4" to 2 1/2"
    There are splits at the top.
    There are 4 broken screws where it originally attached at the base step.
