It has the typical nicks, scrapes, and scratches which should be expected from 100+ year old, architectural parts. However, there are no serious breaks or cracks, rot, or wrap. All it needs is a good sanding and a fresh coat of paint. It's strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service!Dimensions:Base: 6 1/4" x 6 1/4"Shaft & Cap: 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"Height: 49" (32 3/4" without cut-out portion)

49" Antique Solid Wood Victorian Newel Post
Charming, antique,  newel post salvaged from an old home in Central New Jersey.  It's made of solid wood, but  don't know what type of wood it's  made of. The post is stained and finished (not painted).  It has a straight shaft or body with a square top and stepped molding  underneath.
This post was positioned at the bottom of the stair case  so it has a cutout at its base for where the first step was located. This cut-out could either be cut off  (reducing the height to 32 3/4") or filled with wood to keep the current 49"  H or even make it taller
