    Description

AMERICAN INDIAN BARBIE DOLL AMERICAN STORIES COLLECTION - New Damaged Box
    Manufactured by Mattel in 1995
Part of the American Stories Collection
    Collector Edition
Barbie wears a brown "buckskin" outfit with fringe, headband with feather, & fringed boots
Baby is in a papoose & headband with feather
Also includes:  Baby Blue Feather book, plastic doll stand and hair brush
Box Condition:  There is no denying that this box got squished during storage.  None of the contents were ever removed or played with.  I refrained from taping it back up in the event a collector wanted to work some magic on the box as I believe it could be restored to acceptable condition.  There are no rips or significant dents to the front clear plastic and the side cardboard could be reglued to the plastic.  The main concern would be the top of the box which obviously took the brunt of said squishing.  A cardboard piece was torn off, but I put it in the box.  Of course, since there is a doll stand with this item, I'm not sure why anyone would want to keep this beautiful set in a box.
Interesting side information from the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian:
What is the correct terminology: American Indian, Indian, Native American, or Native?
All of these terms are acceptable.
The consensus, however, is that whenever possible, Native people prefer to be called by their specific tribal name.
In the United States, Native American has been widely used
but is falling out of favor with some groups,
and the terms American Indian or indigenous American are preferred by many Native people.
